MERL/Impact
Team
MERL! Membership,
Extension, Retention, and Leadership will be areas of focus for us this year
as Lions International, Lions of Texas, and as Lions of District 2-E1. Serving on our MERL
Team this year are PDGs Bill Terry, Luren Campbell, A. C. Sharp, Allen Lamb, and Virgie
Mitchell. All Region Chairs will be included in the Team. Lets examine the
components of MERL in reverse order and determine how to place the pieces of the MERL
puzzle together.
Leadership
at all levels in our Clubs is essential. We must educate, train and support our leaders to
assure our Clubs are focused, remain active, generate the funding necessary to support our
financial obligations, retain current members, extend Lions to other communities, and
recruit new members. We must grow new leaders.
Retention
of current members and Clubs in the District is critical to our success as we continue to
experience declines in membership. All Clubs should place retention at the top of the
list. Lets do something different, lets become more flexible, and lets
keep members active in our Clubs. Declining membership does not pay the bills.
Extension
is necessary and is much more than chartering Clubs. Lions depend on chartering new clubs
that will be successful, and will benefit the communities and geographic areas served
through Lions International, Lions of Texas, and Lions of District 2-E1.
Membership
growth is imperative. We must expand our membership and cause our Clubs to become more
diversified. Lets alter the fact we are declining in numbers and are an aging
membership. We must recruit new members who are willing to accept the challenges of
Lionism. Ask someone to join. After recruitment, assure the new members are properly
inducted and put to work. The growth and success of District 2-E1 is dependent on our
memberships.
Lets support the MERL
Team with positive suggestions and feed back. Feel free to contact a Team member or your
Region Chair. Lets replace the WHY questions with WHY
NOT solutions.
Its amazing - The
Power of WE!
